Liverpool transfer news: Green light in Benteke pursuit

A round up of the latest transfer stories surrounding Liverpool.

Liverpool could be set to make a move for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke after the Belgian handed in a transfer request at the club.

Benteke has been a target for Liverpool throughout the summer and they could have the cash to go after him following a failed attempt to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan have also been heavily linked with the prolific Premier League striker.

Luis Suarez’s agent has held talks with Liverpol to clarify the position of the player’s future.

Pere Guardiola met with Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre following a bid from Arsenal for the forward, which the club rejected maintaining their stance that the player isn’t for sale ahead of the new season.

Reports suggest that Guardiola made it clear his player doesn’t have any immediate intention to move away from Anfield.

Norwich City could be set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld.

Liverpool have been linked with the Ajax man for several months but the Dutch club have confirmed that only Norwich have been in touch over a permanent move.

If the Canaries can come up with the €10 million asking price for the player then they will have a chance to agree personal terms with him before any other side ahead of next season.
