Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Benteke and Monaco's AVB approach

Spurs are the favourites with the bookies to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa. The striker handed in a transfer request at Villa Park, which has sparked the market for his next possible club into action. Arsenal and Chelsea are next on the market to land the forward.

Monaco are reportedly stepping up their efforts to poach Andre Villas-Boas from Tottenham Hotspur. AVB has already rejected any possible move to Paris Saint-Germain, which would make any Monaco deal confusing as he seems fully committed to the Tottenham cause.

Spanish newspaper Marca has run a survey which has showed that 78% of Real Madrid supporters want the club to sign Gareth Bale. Bale looks set to stay at Spurs for another season following reports from Spain that Real Madrid were giving up on working out a deal until next summer.

However it looks as if the Welshman will be staying after he was used in the clubs official kit launch.

Tottenham have missed out in their high profile pursuit of David Villa. Villa has joined Atletico Madrid which shows how important Champions League football is in the modern era, when it comes to the top players wanting to play in Europe’s elite club competition.

Internacional have denied receiving a bid from Napoli for Leandro Damiao. Spurs could revitalise their interest in the striker now it’s emerged there has been no official interest in the Brazilian. The club’s president Giovanni Luigi has revealed Napoli haven’t even made a phone call.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel doesn’t want the club to focus purely on getting into the Champions League next season. The American has called on the rest of his teammates to mount a serious challenge for silverware and to put together a title push.

Real Madrid are set to offer Jese Rodriguez a new contract to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur. His current deal ends next summer but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly pushed to get a €1 million per year deal offered to the young forward.

Spurs captain Michael Dawson has called on the club to make key signings, which will propel the club forwards to the next level. Dawson says if the manager is backed to bring in his first choice targets, it can only make Tottenham a better club and more difficult to play against.
