Football League transfer talk: Including Barton and McCormack

Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town all feature.

Marseille have revealed they are unsure over whether Joey Barton will stay with them or go back to Queens Park Rangers. Barton spent time on loan with the club last season and although Marseille have a good relationship with the midfielder, they have pointed out that he remains a QPR player.

Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers are set for a battle to sign Jeremy Helan from Manchester City. Helan spent time on loan with Sheffield Wednesday last season, which probably just gives them the edge in the race for his signature.

Ipswich Town seem to be leading the race for former Wolves defender Christophe Berra. Berra had been linked with a high profile move to Rangers in Scottish football but Ipswich have an advantage in the respect that Mick McCarthy signed the player when he was Wolves boss.

Former Norwich City striker Grant Holt says he’s ready for a new challenge at Wigan Athletic. Wigan completed the signing of Holt, who will lead their attack as they look to get back into the Premier League at the first time of trying following relegation last season.

Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up a move for former Chelsea product Nortei Nortey. The 18-year-old left Chelsea at the end of last season following knee problems, which caused the Premier League giants to unfortunately move him on as he wasn’t able to fulfil his potential.

Leeds United striker Ross McCormack has insisted that he wants to stay at Elland Road. Blackpool were thought to be readying a £1 million offer for the forward but he’s subsequently insisted that he is not looking to move away and wants to prove himself at Leeds.

Manchester City are set to listen to offers for defender Reece Wabara. The youngster joined City back in 2007 and a variety of football league clubs, including several from the Championship, are thought to be interested in signing him on a deal ahead of the new season.
