Seven areas Arouna Kone outranks Jelavic and Anichebe

Arouna Kone

Everton have snapped up Arouna Kone, and the statistics suggest he should be the club's top striker heading into next season.

Everton confirmed the signing of Arouna Kone yesterday, paying £6.5 million for the Wigan Athletic striker.

It's a substantial amount for a 29-year-old, but it should be placed in context that Manchester United paid £24 million for Robin van Persie who was the same age last summer. Different players very much so, but age should not be used as a reason to moan about the transfer.

And nor looking at the statistics should ability, with Kone outranking Everton forwards Nikica Jelavic and Victor Anichebe in seven key areas last season with his performances in the Premier League.

Combined with a stronger team and a coach who knows how to get the best out of him, next season should be positive for Kone and Everton.

Here is a look at the areas Kone came off better than his new Everton teammates:

Kone scored 11 Premier League goals last season for Wigan, while Jelavic scored 7 for Everton and Anichebe 6.

Kone fired in 2.7 shots per game and 92 in total; Jelavic had 2.6 shots per game and 72 efforts, with Anichebe 2.5 per game with 65 attempts on goal.
