Andy Murray – the movie: who would you cast?

There's undoubtedly room in the world for a good tennis movie – and following Andy Murray's victory at Wimbledon, some canny Hollywood mogul is surely flexing his cheque book, poised to snap up the rights to the Scotsman's life story.

Baseball, boxing, ice hockey, motor racing – golf, even – have been well-served by the film industry. But where is tennis's Rocky? Who is the tennis Karate Kid? Where are the tennis Mighty Ducks, for crying out loud?

The dramatic arc of a Wimbledon champion seems tailor made for the big screen. Indeed, for many years tennis was Hollywood's game of choice – but the sport has since fallen out of favour.

Enter Andy Murray: a great sports movie protagonist – spiky, idiosyncratic, unwilling to play the media game, yet ultimately taken to the hearts of a nation following a climactic centre court battle.

The story's already written – but who to cast in the key roles? Here's a few suggestions from us, but we're sure you can do better. Let us know in the thread below.

Andy Murray
The role requires someone physically adroit, perhaps slightly intense, and capable of doing a believable Scottish accent. We suggest: James McAvoy

Novak Djokovic
The affable Serb ought to be played by someone the audience can really take against, just to up the drama of the Wimbledon final. We suggest: Jesse Eisenberg

Judy Murray
Andy's mother, his first coach and most dedicated supporter. For dramatic purposes, the actor should probably suggest hard as nails on the outside, but sensitive and maternal on the inside. We suggest: Helen Mirren

Ivan Lendl
The elder tennis statesman watching over Andy's progress with a granite face. We suggest: Christopher Walken

Kim Sears
Queen of the Wimbledon WAGs (as some would have it) – the actor must bring style, poise, and convey a rollercoaster of emotions. We suggest: Carey Mulligan
