Manchester United may have long been linked with a move for Robert Lewandowski, but it has been known for some time that the Polish striker only has eyes for Bayern Munich.
Those United fans hoping Borussia Dortmund's signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan would allow for one final bid for Lewandowski can stop dreaming. Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the 24-year-old will be on his way to the Allianz Arena this time next year.
“I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season,” Klopp said. “Now the only question is how to shape the time until then.”
While United may not be getting their hands on a new striker – or at least not that one – reports continue linking them with defensive reinforcements.
The stories surrounding Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay remain. And now Nemanja Vidic is said to be concerned about the 26-year-old’s potential arrival.
Reports yesterday claimed the club captain was due to be offered a one-year extension to his Old Trafford contract. But he will surely only sign that if he feels he will remain a regular part of the team.
Garay isn’t the only defender linked with David Moyes’ side. Now he is said to have joined the race for Cagliari’s Davide Astori.
Reports yesterday from Sky Sport Italia claimed United were interested in signing the 26-year-old, who has indicated a desire to leave his current club this summer.
