Football League transfer talk: Including Holt to Wigan and Samba plea

Wigan Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Watford and Blackpool all feature.

Wigan Athletic have agreed a fee with Norwich City for experienced striker Grant Holt. The forward only scored eight goals for the club last season and is now free to discuss personal terms with the newly relegated Championship club, looking to bounce back up at the first attempt.

Christopher Samba has urged Queens Park Rangers to use the transfer cash raised by sale wisely. Samba is going back to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for almost all of the £12 million fee that QPR originally paid for him. The defender says he hopes the club makes the right signings to go straight back up.

Daniel Pudil says he would be happy to join Watford permanently ahead of the new season. Pudil made 40 appearances for the club on loan from Granada last season and with both clubs owned by the same family, a permanent switch is now on the cards, which he seems to be looking forward to.

Blackpool are considering a move for MK Dons midfielder Stephen Gleeson. The 24-year-old has experience playing under current Blackpool boss Paul Ince during the time both of them were at the MK Dons and Ince is reportedly very keen on linking up with his former player.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones remains hopeful the club can sign experienced striker Kevin Davies. The former England international is looking for a new club after he was told he wouldn’t be offered a new deal to stay with Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has admitted he will do everything to keep key duo Wes Morgan and Kasper Schmeichel. Nottingham Forest are reportedly going after Morgan while Hull City have revealed interest over offering Schmeichel a route into Premier League football.

Manuel Almunia has signed a new one-year contract with Championship side Watford. The former Arsenal man made 43 appearances for the club last season, producing the sort of consistency that he was never able to show during his time in North London with the Gunners.
