Potential Liverpool Mkhitaryan alternative Eriksen shows he is in fine form with free-kick brace

Christian Eriksen

Ajax's Christian Eriksen has shown he is in good shape ahead of the new season with an excellent performance in Germany.

Pre-season is now in full flow for many teams with many even starting to sink their teeth into the off-season friendlies.

While English teams have not quite got there (Chelsea aren’t even training yet) across Europe it is a different story.

One team who have already got into the swing of things is Ajax as they look to improve on what was an excellent campaign last year both domestically and in Europe.

Yesterday they were in action against German second tier outfit Dynamo Dresden. It was their second friendly of the summer following on from their 4-1 victory over SDC Putten in Austria at the end of June.

And they won this tie by the same number of goals, 3-0 in Dresden.

And Liverpool fans should take note on the player who bagged two of their goals.

Christian Eriksen was on target twice for the Dutch outfit and both of his goals were sublime free-kicks from distance; you can see both of them in the video below:

Pretty special hey?

Liverpool’s interest in the creative Dane has diminished in recent weeks as the pursuit of Henrikh Mkhitaryan went to the forefront of their interests. But the ‘Armenian Zidane’ has instead moved to Borussia Dortmund; themselves once considered the favourites to snap up Eriksen as their replacement for the departed Mario Gotze.

But now with Mkhitaryan out of the picture Liverpool should certainly entertain the idea of going back in for Eriksen this summer.

The 21-year-old has already made it clear that he desires an exit from the Amsterdam Arena this summer and the club are willing to let him go on his way with Paris Saint-Germain also said to be keeping tabs on the player.

And considering Mkhitaryan has been sold for over £20 million the suggestion would be Liverpool have some portion of the Andy Carroll money still tumbling around the kitty.

If he can produce moments such as his free-kick brace in Dresden at Anfield then it would likely be a popular transfer move.
