News and gossip from the past couple of days at White Hart Lane.
Paulinho has completed his move to Tottenham from Corinthians. The player cost £17 million and comes to the club off the back of a superb performance at the Confederations Cup and is Andre Villas-Boas’s first summer signing:
"It's a huge pleasure for my career to be at a club as big as Tottenham. I know it will be a huge challenge but I think I can help all my colleagues to succeed and give a lot of happiness to the supporters.’’
But his transfer has not exactly caught the attention of one Spurs player. The clubs left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is famous for his lack of interest in football and he says he doesn’t know who he is:
‘’I don’t know what he looks like. I don’t know him, I don’t follow this kind of news.’’
Stoke City are hoping to pair up Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe again next season. It is reported that Mark Hughes wants to bring in the England international who has been reportedly touted for a move away from the club this summer. He is rumoured to be available for £6 million for the player but The Potters could reportedly struggle to pay his wages.
Spurs’ interest in Miralem Pjanic is once again being linked with a move to White Hart Lane. The 23-year-old Bosnian international is also wanted by Barcelona and has previously been close to a move to Arsenal. Pjanic is valued at €20 million.
Spurs are reportedly ready to smash their wage budget to keep Gareth Bale at the club. Last season’s PFA Player of the Year has been strongly linked with Real Madrid this summer and now the new director of football at White Hart Lane Franco Baldini is looking to tie him down to a long-term deal. They will offer him £170k-a-week to extend his current deal.
