My next statement might horrify and anger my fellow Liverpool fans, but I hope the club do cash in.
Consider what is very likely to happen if he stays at Liverpool. To begin with, he will miss the first six matches of the season - no good to anybody due to his own stupidity.
And when he comes back, what then?
He will be a target. Opposing players will go on to the field with a specific aim of winding him up. he is going to come in for more ongoing abuse than probably any player ever before.
It won't just be the players. Opposing fans will give him a constant torrent of hate.
In other words, if he plays in the Premier League next season, he is going to face levels of provocation that would be a challenge for anybody.
Even the most even-mannered of people would find it difficult to manage?
But Suarez? How long before he retaliates?
This will be the aim, of course, and it would be only a matter of time before he did throw a punch, kick, or bite someone. Given his record, this would mean an even longer ban than he is currently serving.
This is why I fully believe that keeping Suarez would be a big mistake. He may be a great footballer, but that achieves little if he can't play. better to take the money for his sale and use that to buy a decent replacement, or even two.
I have my doubts about the rumours, after all, Mourinho and Wenger are no fools.
However, if Chelsea or Arsenal are prepared to spend good money to buy a time-bomb, good luck to them.
