News and gossip from the past couple of days at Stamford Bridge.
Marco van Ginkel has been speaking about his desire to prove himself a regular in the Chelsea first team next season. The young Dutchman arrived from Vitesse Arnhem on Friday and Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars criticised the move suggesting he won’t play enough football at Stamford Bridge.
He will not be loaned out and had this to say:
"I want to play games and not only sit on the bench - that's what I hope for. I want to play in games at these great stadiums and hopefully be important for the team, whether it is from the bench or from the start.’’
Chelsea have also allowed Patrick van Aanholt to go back out on loan to Vitesse next season. It will be his third loan deal at the club. He played 39 times for the team last season and the 22-year-old has only made eight senior appearances for the Chelsea first-team since his move.
Robert Lewandowski will not be joining Chelsea this summer. Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Polish striker will be joining his former team-mate Mario Gotze at Bayern Munich in 2014. His contract expires next summer so he will leave on a free transfer.
Chelsea are being linked with Daniele De Rossi this summer. The AS Roma midfielder is a long-term target for Jose Mourinho and his position at Roma has become increasingly under risk as he continues to clash at the club. He rejected Manchester City last year but would reportedly look at Chelsea with far more envy.
Oriol Romeu is apparently keen on a move to Valencia. Sergio Canales, who plays for the Spanish outfit, is a friend of Romeu’s and he says the pair have spoken about a move with Romeu claiming he could be interested.
Finally and former Chelsea player and current transfer target Nemanja Matic is likely to leave Benfica this summer. His manager Jorge Jesus confirmed it would be ‘’almost impossible’’ to keep him.
