A select round-up of transfer rumours relating to Arsenal, including Wayne Rooney, Federico Marchetti, Arsene Wenger, Gonzalo Higuain and Lukas Podolski.

Despite David Moyes' insistence that Wayne Rooney will remain at Manchester United this summer, both Arsenal and Chelsea are still likely to press ahead with a £20million bid for the striker, who previously indicated he wanted to leave Old Trafford.

Moyes said that Rooney was not for sale, and hopes to see the striker become a Manchester United legend. The Premier League champions are also likely to be reluctant to sell Rooney to their domestic rivals if he does leave. However despite these reservations, both London clubs retain an interest in the player, with Arsenal planning to invest heavily in their squad in an attempt to challenge for the Premier League title again next season.

Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti has said he is not aware of any interest from Arsenal, with the Gunners recently reported to be keen on a move for the 30-year-old.

Marchetti kept 13 clean sheets in 33 appearances in Serie A last season, and also starred in the Italian club’s Europa League run, which included two 0-0 draws with Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal are apparently considering Marchetti as am experienced replacement for Wojiech Szczesny, with Julio Cesar also on the Gunners’ radar this summer.

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Arsene Wenger about a new three-year contract, and while the deal is unlikely to be signed in the next month, the indications from the French manager are positive.

PSG are expected to renew their interest in Wenger next summer, having failed to tempt him away from the Emirates this year, instead putting in place a short-term deal with Laurent Blanc.

Lukas Podolski has said he would welcome Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal if his club could complete a deal for the Real Madrid striker. Podolski could be pushed down the striker pecking order if Higuain signs for Arsenal, but the German said he would be pleased to see a top player arrive to the Emirates.
