Arsenal should prefer Higuain over Suarez anyway

Luis Suarez Penalty Claim

After the sensationally whacky tale of Suarez to Arsenal we ask whether Gonzalo Higuain is a better option anyway.

Oh this Gonzalo Higuain business is certainly becoming an annoyance. The striker is on a plane, off a plane, having a medical, staying at Real Madrid; the whole thing is bordering on lunacy.

Depending on what source you believe the Argentine striker has his heart set on a move or is starting to have itchy feet; or Arsenal can’t meet the valuation; or Arsenal won’t meet the valuation.

You get the point!

But for all of the Higuain madness it isn’t the craziest Arsenal related striker hunt transfer rumour to emerge this summer.

Last week after a flurry of bets from some obviously misinformed Spaniards we were actually greeted with the headlines ‘Suarez to Arsenal!’

All bets were apparently off and the Uruguayan could have been on the verge of a shocking move to The Emirates.

Of course he most definitely is not about to switch Liverpool for Arsenal this summer.

It is clear he wants out at Anfield; but he really wants out of the country. A switch to London is not exactly going to alleviate the microscope he is under from the British press 24-7.

But I argue that if Arsenal fans were to wish for one of these players it should be the Argentine anyway that they want to see paraded around with a Gunners shirt.

Most would argue that Suarez is the more complete player and I definitely understand that argument. I myself believe Suarez is on the top ten players in the world which is not something I would say about Higuain.

But in terms of what he is being brought in to do the reality is the two are not much different; in fact Higuain is the better of the pair.

He has banged in the goals throughout his career; scoring at an average of a goal every 88 minutes of league football.

Suarez has scored goals; but nothing on that magnitude - which makes me doubt my selection of top ten world footballers.

Suarez is also older than Higuain by almost a year so in terms of longevity the Real Madrid man is once again the better option.

Then there is the personality of the pair. Suarez is and will always be trouble and many teams this summer will be asking themselves ‘is this bloke worth the hassle’.

And you can’t blame them. Reported racist abuse, biting, diving, deliberate handballs and unsportsmanlike behaviour; you name it Suarez has done it.

Higuain on the other hand is humble, committed and respectful of his club and fans; even throughout this transfer saga he has not thrown the toys out of the pram much like Suarez has.

So forget the betting story on Suarez and forget him coming to The Emirates; but it doesn’t matter.

Because Arsenal are going after the better option anyway.

Would you rather have Suarez or Higuain?
