Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has been touted as a target for Liverpool throughout the summer with the club seeking a replacement for Jamie Carragher.
The centre-back is out of contract in 2014 and is seeking to move on this summer and clinch a big move, with clubs in the Bundesliga, Premier League and Serie A all linked with his signature.
His agent said coyly: "Toby has left the pre-season camp of Ajax in Austria due to personal reasons and I haven't spoken with him about Norwich yet. I don't know if Toby is interested in a move or not."
The approach is just the latest example of Norwich manager Chris Hughton's astute approach to the transfer market this summer, with striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel already brought in.
They are also eyeing PSV striker Ola Toivonen, and last week signed England under-21 international Nathan Redmond for a deal around £3 million.
In the case of Alderweireld, the decision of course will rest with the defender. If he could be tempted to the Canaries, he would be another major statement of intent.
Norwich's approach may also tempt sides like Liverpool to step up their own pursuit, as pre-season nears and both players and clubs seek to sort out their prospects.
Should the 24-year-old Belgian elect to move to Norfolk ahead of Merseyside, don't bet against Hughton's men securing a top 10 finish next season.
Where would Alderweireld be best served? Norwich or Liverpool?
