Another transfer window, another call for Tottenham to buy a striker or two – and the most recent report suggests they will have to spend big to sign rumoured target Roberto Soldado.
Spurs are said to have offered £17million for the Valencia frontman, but his club are holding out for the player’s release-clause.
Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly close to a move for Barcelona’s David Villa, with Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke regularly linked. So how much truth there is in the Soldado rumours remains to be seen.
But at 28, he certainly has the experience. While his 24 goals in La Liga last season speak of a prolific marksman the Lillywhites could certainly do with.
At the other end of the scale is Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu, who may only be 19 but is already making waves and now looks set for a loan move to the Premier League.
Tottenham and Everton are believed to be at the head of the queue, and having netted 18 times for Barcelona’s B team last season, whoever gets him will be signing both a scorer and a provider of goals.
And finally, the deal to bring Paulinho to White Hart Lane is all but done.
The 24-year-old midfielder underwent his medical yesterday prior to a £17million move. And provided all went well, it is expected his signing will be announced in the coming days.
Paulinho’s arrival gives Spurs an impressive midfield trio next season of himself, his countryman Sandro and Mousa Dembele.
