By next Monday we should know where Thiago Alcantara's future lies.
If you aren’t sick of the continuing rumours regarding Thiago Alcantara then read on; if you are then why did you click on the link; are you some kind of new age hipster masochist? Do you enjoy causing your brain frustration?
Well we are an open minded troupe so if you are fair enough; you may also read on.
The chit-chat and conjecture have been circulating for a very long time and this morning it was reported that the lad had said yes to a deal that yesterday a Barcelona source said had never even arrived.
So let’s rewind to Thursday when there was certainly no uncertainty in the Alcantara household. His little brother Rafinha was at the Barcelona complex signing on the dotted line of a two-year contract extension; keeping him at the club until 2016.
And his father was present, who we all know is Brazilian World Cup winner Mazinho.
He was pleased with his sons decision but when it came to the eldest Thiago he was told that it was decision time.
The Catalan club’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta reportedly informed Mazinho on Thursday that a decision on his future had to be made in ten days by July 15th.
That is when Barcelona return to pre-season training and they want to provide Tito Villanova with his final first-team on that day; with no surprises coming later down the line.
Thiago has an €18 million buy-out clause in his contract and Bayern Munich are also said to be rivalling United for the European Under-21 Championship Player of the Tournament.
So we are now led to believe that by the 15th July we will finally have a definitive answer on the future of one of the summers most prolonged transfer rumour.
But as we have learned from the pursuits of Jovetic, Higuain and Suarez this summer; that rhetoric could change at any point.
