Tottenham Hotspur are considering stepping up their pursuit of Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who is valued at around £20million by the Italian club. Spurs have been linked with the attacking midfielder in the past, and with former Roma director Franco Baldini now part of their backroom staff, they might feel they have a better chance than ever of signing the 23-year-old.
One questions might be over where Pjanic would be used at Spurs next season, with Andre Villas-Boas already having several options available to him in his midfield. In an attacking role, Lewis Holtby and Gylfi Sigurdsson are expected to build on solid if unspectacular debut seasons at White Hart Lane, whilst Paulinho is already set to join Mousa Dembele and Sandro in their central midfield.
Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are apparently leading the chase for Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu, who is expected to go out on loan next season. The prolific 19-year-old, who scored 18 times in 33 matches for Barcelona ‘B’ last season, can play anywhere across a three-pronged attack, is reportedly open to a short term move due to the competition for places at the Spanish club.
Either Everton or Spurs could benefit from having the youngster to boost their squad depth, but whether they would want to loan Deulofeu without an option to buy could be a factor in any deal, with Barcelona unlikely to accept such a clause as the forward is amongst their most promising young players.
Despite reports that Manchester City were close to completing a deal for Alvaro Negredo, Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has come out to say that no club has made a bid for the striker.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a last minute attempt to beat Manchester City to Negredo, although they are unlikely to be able to outbid Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with rumours that City are prepared to pay over £20million for the 27-year-old.
