Liverpool have withdrawn any interest in signing FC Porto winger Christian Atsu.
The 21-year-old was thought to be near the top of possible transfer targets for Brendan Rodgers but he now looks set to focus on the development of Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe.
The move should save Liverpool at least £3 million and will allow Rodgers to focus on getting Sterling ready for the start of the season, as he’s just getting over a troublesome thigh problem.
Liverpool face strong competition from Tottenham Hotspur and local rivals Everton in the race to sign Barcelona’s Gerard Deulofeu.
Barcelona have made it clear the youngster is available on a season long loan deal and Liverpool were thought to be leading the pack of sides trying to get his signature.
Deulofeu is currently in Turkey with Spain at the Under-20 World Cup, which means Liverpool still have time to position themselves as a decision is unlikely to be made until the end of that tournament.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan could force a move to Liverpool and save the club £5 million in the process.
The Armenian midfielder has a price tag of £25 million from his current club Shakhtar Donetsk but he reportedly has the option to break his own contract which would see him move to Anfield in a cheaper deal.
Mkhitaryan is thought to be at odds with his current employers who seem to be making it as difficult as possible for him to become Brendan Rodgers’ latest signing.
