News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
There have been contrasting reports today regarding the apparent transfer of Gonzalo Higuain. The rumour last night was that the Argentine striker was on a flight to England in order to have a medical but that now appears to be false. However this morning the claim was still that Arsenal would be signing the player for £23 million this weekend.
However reports in Spain today suggest that no deal has been agreed and that Real are holding out for a vastly more significant offer than what is currently on the tale; meaning this saga will drag on into another week.
Swiss international Johan Djourou has finally completed his season-long loan deal to Hamburg SV today. The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at fellow Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96 and he has now moved on to gain more first-team football. There is an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Arsenal have also allowed 22-year-old French utility player Francis Coquelin to go out on loan this season. He played 22 games last season but is largely used off the bench at The Emirates so will get the chance to play first-team football at Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg in 2013-14.
It seems the two of them will be joined out the exit door by Ivorian forward Gervinho. The former Lille payer has struggled this season with poor form and has previously been linked with Fenerbahce. However he is more likely to be on his way to Marseille; who are reportedly readying a bid.
Arsenal could apparently be about to reignite their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo. Despite starring for Brazil at the Confederations Cup he has not been a regular in the Bayern side recently and could feel a move will consolidate his place in the Selecao starting XI.
