12pm Sports News: Featuring Murray, Moyes and Anelka

A round up of the hot topics from the sports world including Andy Murray's semi-final, David Moyes' press conference and Anelka's West Brom deal.

Andy Murray faces Jerzy Janowicz this afternoon for a place in the Wimbledon final. Murray made it through a gruelling five set test against Fernando Verdasco to set up this meeting with the Pole, notorious for his massive first serve and power play from the base line.

West Brom have completed the signing of former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka. The 34-year-old has ample Premier League experience having played for five different teams in England’s top division. Steve Clarke says he expects his new signing to add firepower in attack.

David Moyes will hold his first press conference as Manchester United manager later this afternoon. Moyes is expected to take questions on a variety of topics including transfer plans as well as the ongoing saga relating to Wayne Rooney’s future at the club.

Australia fast bowler James Pattinson has suggested he will target Joe Root at the top of England’s order. England face Australia in the first Ashes Test this Wednesday and Pattinson says he will look to get inside the mind of Root who will be under pressure opening alongside Alastair Cook.

Jonathan Davies has said he’s not daunted by the prospect of filling in for Brian O’Driscoll. The British and Irish Lions take on Australia in a series deciding final Test tomorrow with echoes of confusion still evident following Warren Gatland’s decision to drop O’Driscoll.
