Roma president James Pallotta has revealed everyone is available in the transfer market following the club’s poor campaign last season.
The comments mean that Premier League sides all over the country and top teams from around Europe should be working on deals for some of the club’s best players, creating chances to sign them that otherwise wouldn’t have existed.
“We’ll see. Everybody is on the market,” said Pallotta.
Here are some players with significant Premier League links.
Daniele De Rossi
De Rossi is thought to be the subject of interest from Chelsea with the Blues apparently ready to fork out £10 million to sign him.
De Rossi is nearing his 30s and is rated as one of the best and most experienced players at Roma so he’ll be one of the few players the club would rather hang onto.
However, his age of 29-years-old, soon to be 30, suggests that if Chelsea make a substantial offer, Roma won’t be able to turn it down because they won’t ever get as good a fee.
Lamela is a player that Manchester City scouted last season and he could still be a very exciting young signing for the Etihad club.
His contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2016, which means he is going to be expensive and it’s a risk for the club as he doesn’t have a long history of experience to back himself up.
Osvaldo is a striker who has reportedly been on the radar of Liverpool, keen to move away from Italy where he doesn’t exactly get the best press.
He’s a 27-year-old forward also on a deal to the summer of 2016. Liverpool could still make a move for him, as they’re looking for another creative player ahead of the start of next season.
However, his history of disciplinary problems both on and off the field will be a concern. That includes two red cards last season and a Twitter rant directed at his manager.
Pjanic is a player who nearly joined Arsenal before he committed to a Roma transfer and the Gunners could be interested in going after him now that Roma’s president has admitted everyone has their price.
The only problem is that there is already severe overcrowding in Arsenal’s midfield with Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey all fighting for central positions.
However, his contract is shorter so there is a greater chance Arsenal would be able to get some value out of any deal.
Marquinho is another player linked with a move to the Premier League, most significantly with Manchester City.
However, the recent signing of Fernandinho means it’s a deal which may never happen but there are plenty of other European clubs, including Barcelona, who have been linked with him.
Who would you like to see your club target? Which deals do you predict?
