Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Bale latest and Benteke

Gareth Bale

A select round-up of transfer rumours relating to Tottenham Hotspur, including Gareth Bale, Christian Benteke and Bernard.

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett turned up on Marca TV to discuss the future of the 23-year-old forward, saying that there has yet to be an offer from Real Madrid. Tottenham Hotspur have insisted that Bale is not for sale at any price this summer, indeed new signing Paulinho suggested the retention of Bale was a reason why decided to join Spurs, but rumours will not go away about a Madrid mega-bid for the Premier League Player of the Year.

Barnett said that Bale had yet to say either yes or no to a move to Real Madrid, because there had been no bid for his services. The Welshman was on holiday last week, but returns to Spurs next week for the start of pre-season training.

Spurs are set to renew their interest in Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, with reports suggesting they hope to bring the Belgian in alongside David Villa this summer. Spurs are hoping to make Villa their second summer signing after Paulinho, who they have yet to officially announce despite the player and Corinthians confirming the deal, but then will turn their attention to the 22-year-old striker, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season.

Benteke is yet to sign a new contract at Villa Park, and is apparently looking for a significant increase on his current wages despite moving to England only last summer. Aston Villa have so far made it clear they want to keep Benteke, and indicated that only a bid of over £25million would be enough to sign the Belgian, who they bought for £7million. Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Benteke this summer.

Brazilian winger Bernard looks set to move to Porto, after his agent, Adriano Spadoto, said that both Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur were unwilling to meet Atletico Mineiro’s high price-tag for the player. Porto also have a connection with Atletico Mineiro through BMG bank, and could benefit from more lenient third-party ownership laws in Portugal compared to the Premier League.
