Liverpool latest: Including transfer plans and Gerrard fitness update

A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool.

Jonjo Shelvey has completed his move to Swansea City. The price tag was £5 million, which includes potential add-ons dependent on performance. Swansea's chairman Huw Jenkins said he was keen on Shelvey to help maintain a British contingent at the club.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he is looking to make two more signings this summer. Rodgers has highlighted the need for another creative attacking player and some more defensive support as he looks to complete his transfer business early, allowing his side to prepare for the new season.

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is in great physical condition. Gerrard returned to pre-season training early following shoulder surgery and Rodgers says he won’t be too far away from where he needs to be in terms of fitness for the new season.

Liverpool have been dealt a blow if they had serious intentions of going after Micah Richards of Manchester City. City plan to keep Richards from signing for another English team by promising him a prominent role under Manuel Pellegrini over the coming season.

Ajax have moved a step closer to replacing Toby Alderweireld after they were given permission to try and sign Mike van der Hoorn of FC Utrecht. Liverpool may have a chance to sign the Belgian after talks between his representatives and Bayer Leverkusen broke down.

Clement Grenier has said he’s still unsure over where he will be playing his football next season. The Lyon star has confirmed that Arsenal have made an approach but nothing has been decided, which means Liverpool may still have a chance to sign him if they can put together a good offer.

Liverpool are thought to be closing in on Italian Under-21 player Jorginho of Hellas Verona. The central midfielder has just helped his side into Serie A but he could be set to be poached by Liverpool, who may choose to use him as a fringe player in the senior squad next season.

New Liverpool signing Kolo Toure has said the brand of football the club plays is ‘amazing’. Toure has revealed how difficult it was to play against Liverpool as a Manchester City defender last season and says he’s looking forward to playing in a side that likes to dominate possession.

Central defender Daniel Agger has been placed 45th in the list of 100 Kop favourites. The defender has been linked with a move away from the club this summer but his popularity at Liverpool will simply be enhanced if he shows a sense of loyalty to the Anfield side.
