Garay has been linked as a possible new centre back for Manchester United for several weeks and he’s just dropped a big hint on Twitter, that he’s starting to take a very deep interest in the Old Trafford club.
Garay is now following the official Spanish Manchester United account, which provides nothing but Old Trafford news in Spanish form.
Considering the timing of his decision to follow that account, it could be an indication that he’s keen to follow the rumours of United’s apparent interest in signing him.
It’s not rare for a professional player to be actively involved on Twitter but the fact Garay also follows Manchester United players is another indication that he’s looking for an insight as to what life is like at the club.
His club Benfica have also dropped a big hint that they could be preparing for his exit in the form of Lisandro Lopez of Argentinian side Arsenal.
Benfica have already done a deal for the 23-year-old defender, which is further indication they could be looking to cash in on Garay now they have a replacement in place.
Benfica would still have just under ten players in defensive positions if Garay leaves, with Lopez simply providing more cover to an already very strong defensive unit at the club.
It simply all adds to the fire which started to flare up when reports started surfacing about a gentleman’s agreement between Garay and United, that he would sign for the club in the current transfer window.
He would be a quality addition to the back four but it’s important his arrival isn’t taken in the wrong way by the younger players at the club.
United have a very talented crop of young defenders in the form of the Da Silva brothers, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.
David Moyes’ pursuit of Garay could be an indication that he wants more of a stable and experienced player in the back four, as Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic will not be able to play every game next season.
He has to balance out using those younger players with his potential new signing because although United did have defensive problems last season, Rafael, Evans and Jones all performed admirably at times during a title winning season.
United have the opportunity, the hints and the resources to make this move happen.
Do you expect Garay to complete a move to Manchester United this week?
