The 22-year-old French attacking midfielder told Le Parisien his club had rejected a bid from the Gunners as he continues to negotiate the terms of his contract with Lyon which expires in less than a year’s time.
"I know Lyon have rejected an offer from Arsenal. Of course it's flattering that clubs are interested in me,” he explained.
“It's hard for me to talk about my future now because I'm not yet certain of it. I prefer to wait to be 100% sure of what is going to happen before I do it."
It would appear Lyon are more than a little reluctant to lose the highly-rated youngster who scored 7 goals and made 8 assists in total across all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this term.
He’s valued around £7 million but, should Arsene Wenger fail in any further attempts to capture his young compatriot, there are alternatives available if Wenger’s insistent on raiding Ligue 1.
1) Florian Thauvin
Another emerging Ligue 1 starlet is Lille youngster Florian Thauvin. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder plays the same exact position as Grenier but has scored 10 goals and made 3 assists on loan at Bastia this term.
He has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates before signing for Lille in January for a fee of around €3.5 million which is still well within Wenger’s price-range.
2) Wahbi Khazri
Another young Bastia prospect is 22-year-old French-born Tunisia international Wahbi Khazri who scored 7 goals and made 9 assists in Ligue 1 this term. He’s valued around £3.5 million and enters the final year of his contract in less than a year’s time.
3) Remy Cabella
Over at Olivier Giroud’s old stomping ground £7 million-rated Montpellier youngster Remy Cabella scored 8 goals and made 8 assists in all competitions, including performances in the Champions League against Arsenal. At 23, the France youth star is exactly the kind of signing Wenger could opt for if the Grenier deal collapses.
4) Ryad Boudebouz
23-year-old Sochaux-Montbellard attacking midfielder Ryan Boudebouz managed a decent 5 goals and 7 assists this season. The French-born Algeria international is more of a winger but has entered final year of his contract and could easily be brought to the Emirates for less than his valuation of around £4 million and would constitute a good bargain for the club.
5) Marvin Martin
Or perhaps a little older and little wiser Marvin Martin who, in fairness wasn’t at his best for Lille this term managing just 9 assists in all competitions but, given his previous form (2 goals and 9 assists in 2011/12 and an incredible 18 assists and 3 goals in 2010/11) the 25-year-old Frenchman would still be great signing for around the £7 million mark.
