News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
Arsenal have failed with a bid for Clement Grenier of Lyon. The 22-year-old, who has been compared to Samir Nasri, has been linked with a move to The Emirates recently and his current contract expires in 2014. He admitted he is remaining open minded about his future at the club:
"I know Lyon have rejected an offer from Arsenal. Of course it is flattering that clubs are interested in me.
"It's hard for me to talk about my future now because I'm not yet certain of it. I prefer to wait to be 100 per cent sure of what is going to happen before I do it."
There are problems in the deal for Gonzalo Higuain. It is reported that The Gunners have struggled to agree on a fee for the Argentine; with the Gunners refusing to go above £21 million and Real Madrid wanting £25.5 million it seems this one-time ‘done-deal’ is suffering setbacks at every turn.
Gareth Barry is reportedly a transfer rumour for Arsenal. The England international is entering the final year of his contract at Manchester City and there is talk that new City boss Manuel Pellegrini could cash in on the veteran midfielder this summer. He is reportedly available for £3.5 million.
Striker Nicklas Bendtner is on the verge of signing for Eintracht Frankfurt. The Danish international was transfer listed at The Emirates this summer and will complete a £3 million move to Europa League challengers Frankfurt this week. It will bring to an end an eight-year association with the North London club.
Vito Mannone has completed his move to Sunderland. The 25-year-old Italian has been in discussions with The Black Cats all week over a proposed transfer and the deal has now been confirmed.
Mannone had this to say about the move:
"I waited a long time for an opportunity like Sunderland, and for me it is a great one."
