12pm Sports News: Featuring O'Driscoll, Murray and van Ginkel

A select round up of the latest stories from the sports world including Brian O'Driscoll, Andy Murray and Marco van Ginkel.

British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has taken the gutsy decision to drop Brian O’Driscoll for the final Test this weekend. The experienced Irishman will not be in line for the captaincy after Sam Warburton was also ruled out of the game with a hamstring problem.

Andy Murray has described Fernando Verdasco as an extremely dangerous player ahead of their Wimbledon quarter-final match. Murray warmed up yesterday against a left handed player as he bids to try and avenge the defeat he suffered in the final of this Grand Slam last year.

Chelsea have held talks with Marco van Ginkel over a switch to Stamford Bridge. The Vitesse Arnhem star has met with Jose Mourinho and is thought to be keen on a move to West London, as long as it doesn't have an impact on his chances of playing for Holland at the World Cup next year.

From Barcelona to Stoke City, the Premier League side have signed Marc Muniesa on a free transfer. The Under-21 star was part of the Spanish squad which recently won the Under-21 European Championship and he’s said he’s very excited about the chance to move to England.

England batsmen Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott both made runs as England’s warm up match for the Ashes against Essex turned into a farce. The status of the match was changed from a first class game to a practice match after concerns over the standard of the Essex bowling from the England camp.
