A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
There have been reports today that Chelsea have made an approach for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, with Sky Sports suggesting that the Uruguayan will hold talks with the Italian club about his future this week. Cavani is apparently unhappy with how the transfer has been conducted by Napoli, and might try and push for their asking price to be lowered. Chelsea are apparently unwilling to meet the striker’s £54million buy-out clause.
However there has also been speculation that PSG are ready to enter the race for the striker, and the Ligue 1 champions are prepared to pay over £50million for Cavani. Napoli have so far sai they will only sell if the £54million clause is met, and PSG’s bid would be a blow to Chelsea’s hopes to get that price lowered.
Chelsea will apparently resist all attempts to prise David Luiz away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with the defender not for sale at any price. Luiz has been linked with Bayern Munich, PSG and Barcelona amid rumours Jose Mourinho would be happy to sell the Brazilian defender, but the latest reports suggest that Luiz will be a key figure for Chelsea next season.
Chelsea have reportedly bid £12million for Sporting Lisbon youngster Bruma, who has been labelled the “new Cristiano Ronaldo”. The 18-year-old is currently in action at the Under-20 World Cup, where he has caught the eye of several top clubs with his exciting displays for Portugal.
Real Madrid are set to rival Chelsea for Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, with Manchester United and PSG also apparently monitoring the 24-year-old. Matic, who has a release clause of £42million in his contract, is apparently one of Mourinho’s top targets this summer, with Chelsea prepared to bid around £25million.
John Obi Mikel has refused to rule out a summer move from Chelsea, with the Nigerian midfielder saying that anything can happen in football. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Galatasaray recently, and did little to rebuff rumours off a possible exit.
“I have a four-year contract with Chelsea but you know, in football you can never guess,” he said.
“One day you are here, the next day you might leave.”
On HITC today we ask who is more important to Chelsea, Demba Ba or Romelu Lukau and look at the rumours linking Xabi Alonso with a move to Stamford Bridge, and particularly how Liverpool would react to seeing the Spaniard at a rival. We also suggest that Stephan El Shaarawy is not the striker Chelsea should be chasing this summer.
