Internacional now have no reason to sell the Brazilian international striker after cashing in on two other prized assets this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have long been chasing Brazilian international striker Leandro Damiao of Internacional Porto Alegre in a transfer saga that has teetered on the precipice of farce, anticipation and irritance for the past 18 months.
And when it emerged that Southampton were also keen last week it was the latest spanner in the works of a deal that for long periods has looked as equally as done as it did not.
Damiao has not only teased and titillated Tottenham recently. Napoli thought he was heading their way whilst Marseille were also left wondering what they had done to deserve such tantalising to only be disappointed.
And it seems now certain that Damiao will be playing in Brazil next season.
Internacional have absolutely no reason to sell the striker now.
Because they have just taken on board a pretty hefty influx of cash from Ukraine this month.
They have sold promising attacker Fred to Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of €15 million. He joins the likes of Taison, Luiz Adriano and Douglas Costa among the Samba contingent at the Donbass Arena and the 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal in Donetsk.
They have also sold Brazilian national team member Rodrigo Moledo to Metalist Kharkiv. The centre-back has previously played in Europe with Polish outfit Odra Slaski but has now taken a step up by joining Metalist; who participate in Champions League qualifying next season.
While no fee has been officially disclosed for the player it is rumoured to be in the region of €5 million; meaning Internacional have just cashed in to the tune of €20 million this summer.
With that influx of cash the idea of selling Damiao decreases in probability; as confirmed by the clubs director of football Luis Cesar Souto de Moura last week: http://www.sambafoot.com/en/news/49215_internacional_rubbish_rumors_linking_leandro_damiao_to_southampton.html
"Nothing has come, clubs from everywhere sound him out all the time, but we don't even consider that anymore, as there are too many inquiries but offers never come. I am working with the idea of keeping the player, so that he doesn't leave."
Internacional will now surely be looking at bringing players in rather than selling them; using the new money on offer to complete moves for ex-Arsenal star Julio Baptista and Corinthians utility man Jorge Henrique.
And the chances of Damiao actually leaving Brazil this summer have now surely evaporated into rumour vapour for another transfer window.
