Former Tottenham striker Mido backs Baldini and predicts Osvaldo swoop

White Hart Lane

One of Tottenham Hotspur's former forwards has given his full backing to their new director of football.

English clubs have not generally enjoyed successes with directors of football, but newly installed Tottenham man Franco Baldini is out to prove he is the exception to the rule.

The former Roma man is already busy, with Alen Halilovic, Tin Jedvaj, David Villa, all on his shortlist after helping the club seal the capture of Paulinho from Corinthians.

Spurs fans looking for further reference for their exciting new puppeteer were handed it in the shape of a couple of tweets from former striker Mido last night.

The Egyptian played at Spurs between 2005 and 2007 signing from Roma after a loan spell, but like Emmanuel Adebayor, as soon as he joined permanently it went downhill.

After a nomadic career most recently seeing him crop up at Barnsley, Mido announced his retirement last month, at the age of just 30.

While his storied journey deserves an article in it's own right, his words last night should certainly give encouragement for Tottenham fans.

Fans will find his use of 'we' interesting, showing he still has an affection for Tottenham all these years later.

Osvaldo was Roma's top scorer last season, but one who often courted controversy due to his fiery personality. Tottenham have previously been linked and his on-pitch record is quite impressive, scoring 16 in 29 Serie A matches last season.

We wonder if fans are actually hoping the club do miss out on Villa in order to capture the Italian?
