Manchester United fans would love nothing more than to see the club wrap up a deal for Thiago Alcantara, arguably the most talented 22-year-old midfielder in Europe.
The Barcelona man is weighing up an offer from them as he considers his next move, with the Red Devils aiming to have the move completed by Friday when new manager David Moyes holds his first press conference.
ESPN have reported tonight that Manchester United are 'very close' to sealing a transfer, claiming an insider tip from an Old Trafford source.
Just nobody tell Barcelona, eh.
Because the Spanish club held a press conference late this afternoon where they were quite matter of fact about the whole scenario, batting off suggestions the player is closing in on his move.
Mundo Deportivo report on the secretary and spokesman of the board Toni Freixa appearing in front of the press, fielding numerous questions and more than happy to discuss the matters he desired to. But Thiago was not one.
Quizzed on the starlet's future, and if there were new developments, he simply stated:
"Nothing new. He's a Barca player."
Numerous reports have previously stated that Barcelona have given up on trying to persuade him to stay, but seeing them persuade his younger brother Rafinha to sign a new deal certainly makes you wonder if that is indeed the case.
Thiago may well be closing in on his move, but Barcelona it appears would rather not let the cat out of the bag.
How do you predict the situation will resolve itself? Where will Thiago play next season?
