News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to attempt a transfer coup d’état on North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were yesterday said to be on the verge of the double signing of Croatian youth international starlets Alen Halilovic and Tin Jedvaj. Yesterday Dinamo Zagreb revealed the deal was done but today it has become apparent that no such deal is in place leaving The Gunners back in the hunt for two players they have previously been linked with.

Julio Cesar is now odds-on to join Arsenal this summer. He reiterated his claim that he wished to remain in London recently which has ramped up the betting on a move from QPR this summer. AS Roma and AC Milan were also linked with his signature but that is now looking more and more unlikely.

The Gunners look set to miss out French defender Benjamin Mendy. The 18-year-old French youth international is currently at Le Havre and is expected to arrive on Wearside later in the week. The left-back has previously been courted by Lyon and Marseille and was heavily linked with The Gunners earlier in the summer. However it appears that Paolo Di Canio has got his man.

Arsenal third-choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone should be a Sunderland player by tomorrow. The two parties agreed a fee at the weekend for the 25-year-old Italian and personal terms are being discussed today. Sunderland hope to have him signed up in time to report to the first day of pre-season training with The Black Cats tomorrow.

Arsenal transfer target Maxime Gonalons has stated he is not currently looking for a move away from Lyon. The French international has also been linked with Napoli but insists he will not force a move. He did however admit he closed no doors when it came to a potential exit; as he seeks to cement a place in the French national team.

Finally, and on the site, we have taken a look at former Arsenal midfielder Mark Randall. The creative midfielder made his first team debut for Arsenal aged just 17 and featured in the Champions League for the club. However he was released by Chesterfield yesterday.
