He has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, with reports earlier this year that a “gentleman’s agreement” was already in place – and now Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay’s Old Trafford transfer is said to be closer than ever.
With the Portugese club set to sign Lisandro Ezequiel Lopez from Arsenal de Sarandi, the 23-year-old is being talked of as Garay’s replacement.
Whether that proves to be the case will be revealed in the coming weeks. Although the Garay rumours have always seemed a little strange to us – most notably because United already have five perfectly capable centre-backs at their disposal.
With talk of another potential English suitor, could the Garay rumours simply be a way of drumming up interest in the player, with United happy with what they have got?
It is Monday, which means David Moyes officially starts his job as United boss today. In fact he is probably already in his office.
But today appears a day to firmly get his feet under the table, with tomorrow being reported as when he will sit down with Wayne Rooney to discuss the striker’s future.
The 27-year-old continues to be linked with a move away, with this morning’s reports suggesting he has made up his mind to leave, citing a World Cup year as the right time for a fresh start.
The latest reports also suggest Moyes would be seeking an offer of around £35million for the England international. No, we can’t see that happening either. But if you don’t ask, you don’t get.
