Valentin Roberge is one of Sunderland's new signings whose deal officially was confirmed today.

Sunderland's signing of Valentin Roberge has been no secret, it was declared a month ago he would be joining along with Cabral and Modibo Diakite.

All three have joined on three transfers, with the deals being made official today (July 1) with his contract expiring at midnight on June 30, and Sunderland duly confirmed the switch on their website.

So what do fans of the Premier League need to know about the new addition?

Here are five facts to bring you up to speed...

1) Roberge is a French centre-back who is 26-years-old.

2) He was once contracted to PSG, but failed to make a single appearance for their first team.

3) Roberge left for Aris in Greece in 2008 before moving to Portuguese club Maritimo in 2010 where he remained before joining Sunderland.

4) He was sent off three times last season for Maritimo, two of which were for two bookable offences and one a straight red card.

5) Roberge has not scored a goal since his fifth game for Maritimo, back in 2010.
