Five Liverpool players to watch in pre-season

We highlight five players Liverpool fans should keep their eyes on this summer.

As July is at its advent professional footballers can start to think about getting back to work with many of them likely to be itching for the opportunity.

Liverpool will travel to Asia and Australia this summer as well as taking in a trip to Norway as they prepare for a season in which optimism is higher than ever after an excellent streak toward the end of last season.

So with Luis Suarez issues cast aside what should Liverpool fans be excited about seeing in the summer?

Iago Aspas

Signed from Celta Vigo this summer Liverpool fans will be looking forward to seeing a man highly rated in La Liga for the past two seasons at close quarters.

It will be interesting to see exactly where Brendan Rodgers uses the player who can quite fluently play in many different positions.

Jordon Ibe

After his final day cameo the 17-year-old will be hoping to have more of an involvement in the first-team proceedings next season.

Playing time in the summer will therefore be crucial.

Luis Alberto

Not many Liverpool fans would actually have seen this lad play; but most would have heard plenty about him. The Spaniard is therefore something of an unknown quantity to those who did not follow the Segunda Liga last year to see him playing on loan for Barcelona B.

So the chance to see him play can’t come soon enough.

Martin Kelly

This one all depends on whether the young defender has recovered fully from the injury that ruled him out for the majority of last season; and at the moment that seems to be touch and go.

Brendan Rodgers rewarded him with a new contract in February and there is no doubt he has a bright future at Anfield if he puts his injury problems behind him.

This summer is his first chance to prove it.

Raheem Sterling

The winger started last season with a bang and earned an England call-up with his excellent form.

Then things tailed off. The rigours of a long season eventually took their expected toll on his young body.

With a good rest behind him and a bit of gym work he should be up and firing again for 2013-14; and we can see just how much during Liverpool’s busy pre-season schedule.

Who do you think we should keep an eye on this summer?
