Despite previous stories that Wayne Rooney wished to remain at Manchester United next season and beyond, the latest reports suggest he could be leaving after all.
With David Moyes officially beginning his new job on Monday, one of his first tasks was always going to be to sit down with the England striker to discuss his future. But that future is believed to be away from Old Trafford, with Rooney favouring a move.
It is being suggested that United are discussing how much they could realistically get for the 27-year-old should they decide to sell.
Talks are set to take place between the club and Rooney’s agent next week.
Another player who could be leaving the club is captain Nemanja Vidic, with AC Milan said to be interested in the 31-year-old.
Vidic has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the past, and as injuries continue to affect his career, Moyes may decide to cash in, especially if the on-going reports of interest in Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay are true.
With the next generation of United centre-back clearly embedded in the club in Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling, this one may actually have legs.
The Everton left-back was the subject of a failed transfer bid last week, but United are almost certain to return with an improved offer.
