Arsenal are reported to be on the verge of completing a deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain - with reports suggesting it could be tied up next week.
Juventus, Arsenal’s main competitor for his signature, have been priced out of a move and therefore turned their attentions to another Albiceleste international last week with the signing of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City.
So with that in mind all that appears to be needed is an agreement on a fee between the two clubs.
And, in keeping with the Argentine feel to this article, a legendary character has had his say on the potential Higuain to Arsenal move; but this Argentine is far better known for his other North London links.
Ossie Ardiles played at Tottenham Hotspur for ten years with a brief spell on loan at Paris Saint-Germain wedged between during the Falklands War.
He even returned as manager in 1993 and is a Tottenham Hall of Famer; revered as a cult legend at Tottenham Hotspur football club.
Nowadays you are more likely to see Ossie chatting to Scott Minto, Gaizka Mendieta and Graham Hunter on Revista de la Liga on Sky Sports rather than sitting in the dugout and he has some very entertaining views on football.
He is also right a lot of the time. For instance he recently labelled England ‘poor’ and said they won’t have a chance of winning the World Cup until 2046! He has a point.
But he has been talking to Goal.com about Higuain and claimed his countryman would be a smash-hit in the Premier League; arguing he could even be as good as Robin Van Persie.
‘’As good as Van Persie? Of course he can, that’s how good Higuain is. You remember when Van Persie arrived he was not exactly, immediately, the best player, it took a bit of time. But he was younger - Higuain is much more experienced."
But he didn’t forget his Tottenham roots in the interview; also stating:
"I’d love to welcome him to White Hart Lane to be perfectly fair!"
Sorry Ossie but as much as Tottenham would do well to bring in the striker he looks all set for a move to Arsenal; with quite a sizeable amount of hype to live up to.
Can Higuain be as good as Van Persie?
