No not Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney or Javier Hernandez; not even goal-shy ‘striker’ Danny Welbeck is promising to find the net more next season.
This promise comes courtesy of Manchester United’s centre-back Rio Ferdinand.
Rio has certainly earned a reputation at the other end of the pitch over the years but next season he promises ‘goals galore’ and after scoring the final ever goal under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford we think that occasion might have gone to his head a little bit.
You can probably recall it anyway as it was only in May but if you suffer from retrograde amnesia then this one is for you.
The goal has social media in a spin in regards to just how hard Rio actually whacked that ball!
He almost tore the goal-mouth straight out the hallowed turf and thank heavens the net held up; because at that velocity a fan was getting a one-way ticket straight to casualty if they took that strike head on.
Rio has referred to that goal and his hope to bag more next season with a cheeky Tweet; where he seems to be sitting by a pool while I roast away in a poky room scouring through Twitter accounts and listening to the new Kanye West album trying desperately to actually enjoy the narcissistic ramblings of a man who has been told he can get away with anything.
Not that I am jealous of Rio or anything for all we know he could be at Butlins again?
He makes it clear that his right foot is simply waiting for the new season to start and while we may not see goals galore from the player we can certainly agree on that.
August 17th cannot come soon enough.
Here is the Tweet in question…
(WARNING: The following picture contains the foot of a professional footballer complete with repetitive stress injuries that some readers, especially those who suffer from Podophobia, may find disturbing).
