Transfer news from The Emirates with Julio Cesar, Micah Richards, Vito Mannone and Gonzalo Higuain on the agenda.
Arsenal are said to be edging closer for a deal to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar from QPR. It comes as speculation linking the Brazilian international with a move back to Italy recently ramped up. AS Roma reportedly earmarked the veteran stopper as a replacement for Fulham new boy Maarten Stekelenburg but this has done nothing but speed up The Gunners pursuit of The Hoops’ stopper.
It is believed a deal can be finalised as soon as Cesar returns from the Confederations Cup; where he will contest the final against Spain on Sunday. It would also see the end of speculation linking Arsenal with moves for Pepe Reina or Asmir Begovic.
Vito Mannone’s proposed move to Sunderland is said to be edging closer to completion this morning. A bid, believed to be in the region of £2.8 million, was accepted for the Italian yesterday and he will join up with compatriot Paolo Di Canio at The Stadium of Light.
However if he was hoping to be a replacement for outgoing Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet he is mistaken. He will instead play second fiddle to Republic of Ireland international Kieren Westwood on Wearside.
A former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager has been singing the praises of prospective Arsenal player Gonzalo Higuain. Ossie Ardiles, was speaking to Goal.com when he spoke of his admiration for the talented Argentine striker and said he can be ‘as good as Van Persie’.
He finished his interview rather cheekily with this suggestion:
"I’d love to welcome him to White Hart Lane to be perfectly fair!"
Finally, and the good people at Just Arsenal have raised a very good point on a player who should be an Arsenal target this season. They believe that The Gunners should definitely make a move for want-away Manchester City defender Micah Richards. With his ability to play in the centre and on the right of defence he would be the perfect addition. You can read the full article here.
