Five Barcelona players Tottenham Hotspur could target

From experienced internationals to promising youngsters, there are several Barcelona players that Tottenham Hotspur might hope to prise away from Spain this summer.

Here are five Barcelona players Tottenham Hotspur could target this summer…

David Villa

The most obvious name, given the amount of speculation there has already been regarding a Spurs bid for the Spain international, but there is no doubt Villa would be an excellent signing this summer. Arsenal’s move for Gonzalo Higuain might have removed a significant rival from the chase for the 31-year-old, and if Spurs move quickly after the Confederations Cup, they could be able to sign Villa for around £10million, with Barcelona happy to let the striker leave after signing Neymar.

Gerard Deulofeu

The 19-year-old forward would likely only be available on loan, with Barcelona well aware of the promise he has shown so far in his career, but Spurs could view a move for Deulofeu as a cost-effective way to add some depth to their attack next season. Deulofeu is unlikely to break into the Barcelona first team next season, and bringing him to White Hart Lane as an impact sub could be a useful move for Spurs.

Ibrahim Affelay

Injury and a lack of opportunities have stopped the 27-year-old making a real impact at Barcelona, and he is likely to leave the Spanish club permanently this summer for what could be a bargain fee of around £5million. At that price, Affelay would be an excellent addition to add depth to Spurs’ flanks, an area where they lacked options at times last season. An experienced and undeniably talented player, Affelay could be one of the bargains of the summer, and Spurs should consider snapping him up before somebody else does.

Sergi Roberto

The 21-year-old midfielder could be available this summer, especially if Barcelona manage to convince Thiago Alcantara to stay at the club, and Spurs might look to bring Roberto to White Hart Lane either on loan or in a permanent move. An adventurous central midfielder with all the technical ability you would expect from a Barcelona youth academy graduate, Roberto would add some creativity to the Spurs midfield, and would be a good cheap option if he was available.

Cristian Tello

Barcelona seemed to have slipped up when it comes to Thiago Alcantara’s contract, allowing a £17million buy-out clause to remain in place that could see the midfielder leave this summer, but their mistake could be even worse in the case of Cristian Tello, who reportedly has a release clause of just £8.5million. The adaptable forward has so far indicated he would prefer to stay and try and force his way into Barcelona’s first team, but with Neymar arriving that could prove particularly difficult, and Spurs should consider trying to tempt Tello to the Premier League this summer.
