The double transfer which will silence Kinnear's critics

St James Park

Newcastle United could be lining up an audacious double transfer swoop for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kurt Zouma.

The St Etienne pair remain firmly on course for the Premier League and their arrival in the North East could silence any doubts fans have over the club’s decision to hand Joe Kinnear control of transfer business.

Aubameyang in particular would be a fantastic signing considering his prolific goalscoring record in French football last season which saw him score 19 goals in 37 Ligue One appearances for his current club.

That strike rate has attracted interest from several top clubs in England including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The forward has confirmed he will choose England over any other country as he plans his next move.

“I will choose England before any other destination - Newcastle is a good club and St James’s Park is a monumental stadium where there is passionate fans,” he told the Gabon Star.

The transfer of Zouma is one which will be more difficult for the club to pull off because of the calibre of sides that are reportedly taking a look at him, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

Zouma is only 18-years-old which makes his impact and achievements to date doubly significant because it makes him a fantastic proposition and investment for several top sides.

Zouma has the ability to become the bedrock of a back four for the majority of his career, which is why there is so much competition for him at this early stage.

Newcastle are yet to bid on either player and it may be some time before they do considering the money involved in any double bid to St Etienne and the fact that Kinnear has to review the deal and approve it.

The worry in an accumulative bid is that St Etienne could end up getting a better overall deal if they sell each player to separate clubs.

It’s effectively a chance for Kinnear to show that he can not only pull this deal off, but also make progressive signings which take Newcastle forward in a big way.

Aubameyang is a player who will guarantee goals while Zouma could easily fill the void which will be created when Fabricio Coloccini either leaves the club in the future or decides to retire from the professional game.

Serious questions were raised when Kinnear was appointed as the Direct of Football at the club but if he can work with and back Alan Pardew to secure this deal, it could be the best pair of signings any English club makes this summer.

But especially in the case of Aubameyang, just don't ask him to pronounce it.

Do you think Newcastle have a chance of landing either?
