Company hails sales results as the popular home console looks set to topple Nintendo's success story.
While Microsoft may have fumbled in the launch of the Xbox One, its Xbox 360 has gone from strength to strength and has been crowed the best-selling console in the UK by industry watchers GfK Chart-Track.
Director of Xbox and Entertainment Harvey Eagle told the site that figures represented a "historic milestone".
"As you saw at E3 earlier this month, we announced a new Xbox 360 form factor and we are committed to ensuring Xbox 360 remains the best place to play games, connect with friends and enjoy your entertainment," he commented.
"You’ll see great exclusive content coming not only to Xbox 360, but also to Xbox One later this year.”
Chief rival Sony still holds the all-time sales record with its PlayStation 2 which netted over 10 million sales over its lifetime.
