Liverpool transfer news: Initial approach for Benteke revealed

A select round up of current transfer stories connected to Liverpool including Benteke, Mkhitaryan and the latest on Luis Suarez.

Liverpool have made an enquiry to Aston Villa over the possible transfer of striker Christian Benteke.

The prolific Belgian forward appears to be a target for the club in the event that Luis Suarez leaves for Real Madrid during the transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to have made an initial approach for Benteke but Liverpool are reportedly prepared to offer the striker a much improved contract on his £20,000 per week terms with Aston Villa.

Benteke scored 19 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season, playing a huge part in helping Aston Villa to stay in the top flight of English football.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly tabled a £19.5 million offer for Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Liverpool have been linked with the Armenian midfielder for several weeks and their hand could now be forced by the German giants.

Mkhitaryan recently failed to turn up for the start of pre-season training with Shakhtar Donetsk, his current employers, which has fuelled rumours he is trying to create an untenable position for himself with the Ukrainian team.

The bid may force Liverpool out of the running to sign Mkhitaryan owing to the fact Liverpool’s current budget will not allow them to dominate if a bidding war breaks out between them and the German club.

Liverpool star striker Luis Suarez may be in breach of his contract with the club if he’s agreed terms ahead of a move to Spanish side Real Madrid.

Suarez has been linked with the Spanish side for several weeks with sources in Spain suggesting he’d agreed a personal package which would take him to Real Madrid as soon as the club agreed a fee with Liverpool.

Liverpool can now call on the striker to report to Anfield following Uruguay’s exit from the Confederations Cup, which will allow them to sort out the current predicament Suarez has seemingly put them in.
