Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs to have reportedly made initial approaches to sign Christian Benteke. The Belgian striker has a prolific first season at Villa Park, which has sparked the interest of their Premier League rivals. Villa could still convince Benteke to stay.

Aston Villa fans have been invited to vote on the possible return of former player Gareth Barry. Barry has been linked with a return to Villa Park due to overcrowding at Manchester City and the fans have been given a chance to say whether they want him back or not.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert will go back to former club Norwich City in a bid to sign Jed Steer. The 20-year-old goalkeeper becomes a free agent next week and he has already agreed to an Aston Villa switch. Steer is an England youth international at under-19 level.

Midfielder Ashley Westwood says he owes his development as a player to manager Paul Lambert. Lambert showed a huge amount of faith in the midfielder last season when there were calls to inject more experience and stability into the side as Villa struggled near the bottom three.

Aston Villa legend Peter Withe has said the club should axe striker Darren Bent. Bent barely featured for the club last season, as Christian Benteke led the attack as Villa managed to hold off the threat of relegation down to the Championship and Withe suggests it’s time for everyone to move on.

Paul Lambert has added ex-Arsenal defender Scott Marshall to his staff ahead of the new season. Lambert has worked quickly to make the addition which shows he’s thinking about the team around him just as much as he’s looking to improve the team ahead of the new season.
