All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City are reportedly interested in Hellas Verona midfielder Jorginho. The 21-year-old Brazilian was previously linked with a switch to Arsenal, but now it is claimed both City and Chelsea are keen on him.
Jorginho made 41 appearances in Serie B last season, scoring two goals and playing the full 90 minutes on all but three occasions.
With excellent passing ability, the player is also said to have prompted interest from AC Milan in the past. But today’s reports suggest that with both City and Chelsea keen to register their interest, should any move happen he is likely to spend next season on loan away from his new club.
Although personal terms are yet to be confirmed – despite previous reports to the contrary – City have agreed to sell the Argentinian for an initial fee of just £7.6million that will rise based on the Bianconeri’s future success.
As City seek a striker to replace their departing one, Edinson Cavani has spoken of his frustration at being priced out of a move away from current club Napoli.
And Chelsea have now told the Italians they will not pay more than £40million for the Uruguayan whose release clause is set at £53.5million.
As much as Cavani seems destined for a move to the Bernabeu, there is a sense that Napoli are simply holding out for the highest bidder. Should Manuel Pellegrini wish to be that bidder, he would do well to act swiftly. Although in truth even £40million seems a little steep.
Two players already newly arrived at the Etihad are Jesus Navas and Fernandinho, and Samir Nasri has welcomed the increased competition for places.
“Of course I’m up to the challenge,” he said, “and the competition will just make us better.”
He also spoke of his move to City in the summer of 2011, and confirmed that he rejected Manchester United in favour of the Blues.
“Yes, they entered into the equation,” he said, “but I preferred to choose Man City because it is the club of the future.”
With increased competition for a starting spot, and this summer’s spending unlikely to be over, Nasri will need to improve on last season’s form to ensure he is around to see that future.
And finally, Inter Milan are said to be interested in Micah Richards.
Their interest was first reported yesterday, following false reports that the defender had rejected a new three-year deal. But now stories claim the Italians could even move for Richards if a new contract is signed – taking him on loan should his appearances at the Etihad be limited.
