A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
Juan Mata has dismissed recent speculation linking him with a departure from Stamford Bridge this summer. Barcelona are reportedly considering a bid for the Chelsea playmaker, after rumours that Jose Mourinho would listen to offers for the 25-year-old.
“I don’t know where that came from,” said Mata.
“The last time I spoke with the club they told me I was a very important player to them and transmitted confidence in me.
“I’m sure (new manager Jose) Mourinho will want to see everyone first and then decide what he wants to do.”
One player who will leave Chelsea this summer is defender Jeffrey Bruma, with reports that PSV Eindhoven have agreed a deal for the 21-year-old. Bruma has played just four times in the league since 2007, spending the last two seasons on loan at German side Hamburger SV. Bruma will apparently cost PSV just under £3million.
Marco Van Ginkel’s agent, Karel Jansen, has said that nothing has been decided about the 20-year-old’s future yet, with Chelsea and Manchester United linked with the midfielder. Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign Van Ginkel, and have a good relationship with his current club Vitesse Arnhem.
Napoli manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the Serie A side will only consider selling Edinson Cavani if the striker’s £54million release clause is met, or if an “irresistible offer” is made. Chelsea and Real Madrid are leading the chase for the Uruguayan, who is expected to move this summer, but Benitez said that he would be delighted if Napoli were able to keep hold of their star striker.
Cesar Azpilicueta has said he hopes that Mourinho will help Chelsea win more trophies next season. Azpilicueta won the Europa League in his first year at Stamford Bridge, but is now targeting success on all fronts under the Portuguese manager who won the Premier League twice in his first spell at Chelsea, along with two League Cups and the FA Cup.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with Verona’s 21-year-old midfielder Jorginho, who could be available for around £6million this summer. Arsenal are also rumoured to be monitoring Jorginho, who could be loaned back to Italy if he does move to Chelsea this summer.
