Reports from Spain today have been very encouraging for Manchester United. Not only have they indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo is to hold behind-the-scenes talk with the club, but delivered positive news on Thiago too.
Now another Spanish paper, AS, has claimed United are keen to wrap up the deal by the end of the week, for a player they have been tracking for 'three years.'
"It also seeks to accelerate the transfer because the United begin next Monday (July 1) the preseason and coach David Moyes wants to know exactly what players overlooking the new campaign. This week is decisive in the case (of) Thiago."
It makes perfect sense for United to want the deal wrapped up as soon as possible, and given the fact Moyes' contract at United officially begins on July 1 - having Thiago's deal already secured would take an element of pressure away from the Scotsman when he starts his job.
If he can face the press for the first time officially as United coach with a deal for the Barcelona man already in place, it will also give the players an extra spring in their step for when they return.
United obviously do not want any other clubs to step in and trump their offer, with Bayern Munich also said to be in the hunt. The Red Devils saw last year how they looked all set to secure Lucas Moura before PSG came in with a better offer.
That can't happen this time from a club perspective due to the release clause, but another club could potentially offer the player improved terms.
Marca reported earlier that Thiago is presently on holiday, but if United are desperate enough to seal the deal this week, which they should be, then the Spaniard may just find hismelf cutting his break short to commit his future.
