Have Manchester United just been given a major boost in pursuit of their two top targets?
The road to securing a major transfer clearly is not easy, as the long-winded sagas of each summer illustrate.
Yet there is reason for positiviity around Manchester United at present, owing to two recent reports regarding two superstar targets.
Here's the latest:
United have been able to close in on the Barcelona midfielder at a price of €18 million, due to a clause in his contract.
The club are said to have met with his father Mazinho and made an offer of €6 million a season over the next five years, and promised him a key role in their starting line-up, which Barcelona are unable to.
Marca report that Thiago is now on holiday, but Barcelona have conceded defeat in keeping him.
They write: "Barcelona, meanwhile, is waiting on official confirmation of something it has been expecting for some time now: that Thiago is to leave... The player's mind seems to be made up and it is now just a matter of time before the official announcement."
They add the only spanner in the works for United is potential interest from Bayern Munich to reunite with Pep Guardiola, but he would likely find himself in a similar position at Barcelona. It certainly looks positive for the Red Devils, who now must simply play the waiting game.
Signing Cristiano Ronaldo is claimed to be United's biggest goal, and also their most ambitious.
Real Madrid are doing everything to resist a move, with the player having two years left before his contract expires at the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo recently incurred the wrath on Madrid by tweeting a denial that he was close to agreeing a new deal.
Spanish newspaper El Pais is today claiming that Ronaldo is to meet with Manchester United officials before returning to pre-season with Real Madrid.
Real remain unwilling to sell Ronaldo, but the coming together of the player and United allows them to put their heads together and formulate a plan to bring him back to Old Trafford, whether that means waiting it out or forcing Madrid's hand sooner.
With 'super-agent' Jorge Mendes pulling the strings to help the player out, there is every reason for United fans to feel positive regarding the latest development.
What do you think of the reports?
