News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.
In transfer news, Manchester United are reportedly ‘eyeing’ Edinson Cavani after his agent admitted a deal with Chelsea was incomplete.
‘Nothing is done with Chelsea,’ said the Napoli striker’s representative, as rumours claim that David Moyes could launch a late £50 million bid for the 26-year-old Uruguayan.
However, The Daily Mail claims that Chelsea have ‘agreed a £49.3 million deal’ to take Cavani to Stamford Bridge.
Cavani made a ‘plea’ to his parents to stop ‘mouthing off’ about his future.
"My father has talked about Real? I want to point out that these words are not coming from me. I've asked my parents a thousand times not to say any more. They can only hurt me,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara has been ‘urged’ to join United for a better chance of regular first-team football, despite the Catalans’ reluctance to lose a homegrown protégé.
Pictures of Alcantara in a United kit have emerged, although they are from his childhood. The Daily Mail report shows the young Spaniard wearing United’s 1999 treble-winning strip.
Elsewhere Arsenal legend Tony Adams has ‘cast doubt’ over the Gunners’ interest in Wayne Rooney after he told reporters he didn’t think the Red Devils striker would suit the English capital.
"I'm not sure Wayne Rooney could handle London, to be completely honest," Adams told talkSPORT.
"That would be a massive risk, for me.”
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘backed’ to stay at Real Madrid despite speculation he could return to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has insisted the United favourite is not for sale, despite the player himself stating that he has not signed a new deal with the Spanish giants.
United are on the ‘red alert’ over Celtic’s Victor Wanyama, according to M.E.N, after a move to Southampton fell through.
"To suggest we are talking with Southampton is totally false, their offer was way below Victor's expectations. There is no chance of him signing the deal on offer and, in fact, both Celtic and Southampton were informed of this some time ago,” explained Ivan Modia, Wanyama’s representative.
Elsewhere, United could have a chance to ‘raid’ Ajax for the Dutch giants’ top talents in Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen, and Viktor Fischer after coach David Endt left the club.
In other news, United youngster Angelo Henriquez is looking forward to facing his teammate Sam Johnstone as Chile take on England in the U20 World Cup on Wednesday.
"For me he's the best goalkeeper in the world,” insisted the Mexican striker.
"We all talk about development and having to go down a certain career path and, of course, at his age."
