Zidane was the pivotal figure who got Isco to agree to a move to Real Madrid according to Spanish newspaper Marca and that’s terrible news if you’re a Tottenham Hotspur fan.
The same report suggests that Isco was on the verge of a move to Manchester City but it was Zidane’s negotiation and persuasive skills which convinced the Spanish Under-21 star to stay in Spain.
Zidane has made no secret of the fact he’s a long term admirer of Bale and Real Madrid have made no secret of the fact they plan to give the Frenchman a very prominent role in the running of the club this summer.
Bale’s future and situation at Tottenham could still very much go either way, with the chances of him staying slightly outweighed by the chances of him leaving for the Spanish capital.
It’s a possible deal which could come down to someone like Zidane being able to have a one-to-one conversation with Bale because he’s well placed to allay any fears and concerns Bale has over any move to Spain.
Football has reached such a state that even if Spurs forbid Bale from talking to anyone connected with Real Madrid in any way, third parties would still find a way to setup a meeting.
Tottenham can only act in the right, professional manner, giving Bale the best possible chance of staying with the club.
If Tottenham start being awkward, aggressive or negative towards the Welshman, they will effectively be pushing him into the arms of Zidane, whose job will then be substantially easier.
In effect they may have to accept that this sort of talk is going to happen so they need to make it as difficult as possible for Zidane or any other Real Madrid official to convince Bale that Spain is the right move.
One area Spurs could make it very difficult for Zidane is if they put a very large and competitive long term deal in front of Bale.
Considering his current affection for the club and his popularity with the fans, it’s a statement that would be well received from Bale and it would make it even more difficult for Real Madrid to convince him to move.
Real Madrid have proven that they will use any tool or any tactic at their disposal to get the Welshman so it’s time for Tottenham to fight back and make it as difficult as possible for them to talk Bale out of a long term future in North London.
How should Tottenham best restrict access to Bale?
